Jay McNeil is a start-up founder, writer, broadcaster, sales and marketing manager that built a career helping others tell their stories, and ultimately finding the courage to tell his own.
A Cape Bretoner known for his years on The Early Show and Local Matters on 103.5 The Eagle in Sydney, he’s also the former owner and editor of The Glace Bay Gleaner, and host of InFocus, a popular weekly talk show on Eastlink Television. Jay also worked in radio across New Brunswick helping launch new stations, build new brands, and manage sales teams responsible for helping local businesses grow by better telling their story.
After more than a decade in broadcasting Jay embarked on a public weight loss journey that saw him transform his life and lose more than 200 pounds. His first book, Lessons in Loss, chronicles that experience. It was published in 2014. His follow up book, Lessons in Change was collection of essays and speeches published in 2015.
Jay returned to Cape Breton in 2017 to launch a new tech-start up called Full Plate Care Ltd – a grocery shopping, delivery, and preparation service for seniors.
Sine returning, Jay has focused his community work on two organizations. He serves on the board of #BayItForward, an economic, social, and cultural development association in his hometown of Glace Bay. He’s also chair of the United Way of Cape Breton Food Security Committee.
Jay has also directed and produced two documentaries for Say Something Webdocs. The Bipolar Code examined the impact a mental health diagnosis has on a growing family. In A Suitable Death Jay explored the life and death of a drug addicted son through the eyes of his mother. The next Say Something production is currently in development.
